DAV welcomes the Delegation from the Fund for Reconciliation and Development (U.S.): Strengthening Cooperation for Peace and Development

On the afternoon of April 18, 2025, Dr. Nguyễn Hùng Sơn, Acting President of the Diplomatic Academy of Viet Nam (DAV), hosted and held a working session with the delegation from the Fund for Reconciliation and Development (FFRD) during their visit to Viet Nam from April 15 to May 1, 2025.

The FFRD delegation, led by Mr. John McAuliff, comprised 19 members, including professors, lawyers, filmmakers, social activists, and independent scholars. From the DAV’s side, the meeting was attended by representatives from the Institute for Strategic and Foreign Policy Studies, the East Sea Institute, the faculties of International Politics, International Law, and International Economics, as well as the Department of International Cooperation.

In his welcome speech, Dr. Nguyễn Hùng Sơn expressed his honor in receiving the FFRD delegation. He highlighted key milestones in the Academy’s development and emphasized the importance of academic exchanges and sincere dialogue in nurturing and promoting the values of peace and cooperation. The Acting President also shared memorable experiences from his business trips to the United States, reflecting the deep academic and diplomatic ties between the two countries.

On behalf of the delegation, Mr. John McAuliff expressed his pleasure at returning to Viet Nam and his appreciation for the warmth and openness of DAV students and staff in previous encounters. He commended the Academy's professional academic environment and the high caliber of its faculty and students, affirming that DAV provides an ideal setting for fostering constructive and sustainable dialogues on Viet Nam–U.S. relations in the future.

In a spirit of openness and sincerity, members of the delegation raised numerous questions related to Viet Nam’s socio-economic landscape and foreign policy.

The meeting concluded in a friendly and positive atmosphere, paving the way for practical cooperation between the two sides in the fields of academia, people-to-people exchange, and sustainable development initiatives. The visit by the Fund for Reconciliation and Development has contributed to deepening the friendship between Viet Nam and the United States and reaffirmed the growing international standing and role of the Diplomatic Academy.

Founded in 1985 by John McAuliff, the FFRD is a U.S.-based non-profit organization originating from the U.S.–Indochina Reconciliation Project under the American Friends Service Committee. Its primary mission is to promote the normalization of diplomatic, economic, cultural, and educational relations between the United States and former adversaries, including Viet Nam, Laos, Cambodia, and Cuba. ./.
