China-Vietnam Friendship Scholarship Awarding Ceremony 2023

On the afternoon of November 22nd 2023, the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam (DAV), in collaboration with the Chinese Embassy in Vietnam (The Embassy), organized the China-Vietnam Friendship Scholarship Award Ceremony 2023 for outstanding students studying Chinese at the Academy and underprivileged students. During the ceremony, 40 scholarships worth over 400 million VND were awarded to the students, bringing joy to the awardees while strengthening the China-Vietnam friendship and promoting the two countries’ comprehensive strategic cooperation.

The scholarship awarding ceremony for the China-Vietnam Friendship Scholarship took place at Room D205, the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam.

The ceremony was attended by representatives of the DAV, including Dr. Pham Lan Dung - DAV Acting President, Dr. Nguyen Thi Thin - DAV Vice President, and officials and lecturers from faculties and students.

The Chinese Embassy in Vietnam was represented by Mr. Chu Van - Political Counselor, Mr. Mau Ve Thanh - Minister Counselor, and other representatives from the Embassy.

The ceremony began with a highly distinctive cultural exchange performance between Vietnam and China, showcasing the passionate and creative spirit of the youth. The performance combined traditional and modern dance with folk music, titled "Hồn Việt" (Vietnamese Spirit), presented by students of the Faculty of International Communication and External Affairs. Additionally, there was a group singing performance of the song "Đồng thoại" (Fairy Tail) by the DAV Chinese Language Club.

DAV Acting President, Dr. Pham Lan Dung, expressed her profound gratitude to the Chinese Embassy in Vietnam in her opening speech at the ceremony and presented a bouquet of fresh flowers to the Embassy representatives as a symbol of friendship. The Acting President stated, "We hope that besides these scholarships, the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Vietnam will continue to accompany and support the Academy by strengthening the organization of cultural and academic exchanges, seminars, dialogues between Vietnam and China, and by connecting the network of universities and students from both countries. We aspire to enhance the cooperation among research institutions in order to further promote the mutually beneficial and bilateral relationship between our two countries. The DAV sincerely appreciates and looks forward to maintaining our further cooperation with the Embassy of the People's Republic of China and developing channels for academic exchange".

Dr. Pham Lan Dung delivered a speech and flowers to the representatives of the Embassy.

In particular, the Acting President presented a copy of the book “Building and Developing Vietnam's Comprehensive and Modern Foreign Relations and Diplomacy, imbued with the essence of the Vietnamese bamboo tree,” authored by General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and recently launched on November 21st, 2023. This gift holds a significant symbolism regarding Vietnam’s foreign policy orientation towards autonomy, peace, cooperation, and overall development. It also expresses DAV appreciation for the contributions of the Embassy to the development of the students at the Academy.

The DAV Acting President gave a gift book to the Political Counselor of the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Vietnam.

Political Counselor Chu Van expressed his joy and affirmed the role of the DAV in promoting the Chinese language and culture among students. He also expressed the desire to collaborate and develop with the DAV, establishing cultural exchange events and academic programs in the future. Furthermore, Mr. Chu Van emphasized the importance of youth and placed expectations on younger generations to promote cooperative and developmental relations between the two countries.

"Young people are the future of the relationship between our two countries. Strengthening exchanges between the people of both nations, especially connecting and fostering understanding and emotional bonds among the younger generations, is an important part of the shared awareness achieved by the highest leaders of both Parties. The Embassy is ready to further enhance close relations with the DAV and provide even more support to students in order to enhance their knowledge and complete their studies. I hope that the awardees of these scholarships will take this opportunity to improve their Chinese language skills and gain a deeper understanding of China, actively becoming builders of the China-Vietnam socialist cause, inheritors of China-Vietnam friendship, and promoters of the bilateral relationship!" shared Mr. Chu Van.

The most notable part of the ceremony was when representatives from the DAV and the Embassy awarded scholarships to the students. The scholarships and the recognition and encouragement from the Academy and the Embassy towards students with outstanding achievements in Chinese language studies and those who have overcome difficulties and excelled in their studies were highlights of the event. Each scholarship served as a significant motivation for the awardees to strive even harder in their studies and achieve accomplishments to be proud of.

In addition, the Embassy presented the DAV Library with a diverse collection of books in Chinese and Vietnamese-Chinese bilingual editions, covering a wide range of topics and subjects. This gift holds great significance as it enriches the library's collection with high-quality Chinese books. On behalf of the students who received the China-Vietnam Friendship scholarships, Chu Thi Hong Nhung, a senior student majoring in International Communication at the DAV, delivered a speech expressing her gratitude and highlighting the roles and responsibilities of each recipient in leveraging their academic achievements and contributing to the bilateral cooperation and development between the two countries. She stated, "I believe that I and my fellow scholarship awardees are sharing the same feelings of joy, honor, gratitude, and pride. The China-Vietnam Friendship scholarship will serve as a significant financial and mental encouragement for us students to continue striving and further enhance our achievements. As for myself, I promise to continue my efforts, study diligently, and contribute even more to the community, especially in cultivating the China-Vietnam friendship, as the scholarship aims to do. On behalf of all scholarship awardees, I sincerely thank the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Vietnam and the DAV for granting us these meaningful scholarships. I wish for the China-Vietnam relationship to grow even stronger and for educational cooperation to become more solid and lasting."

At the end of the ceremony, the representatives from the Embassy, the DAV, and the students had the opportunity to take commemorative photos together, capturing the memorable moments of their cooperative and developmental relationship. This would be a foundation for future long-lasting and solid cooperation programs between the two sides.
