

The session was chaired by Dr. Nguyễn Hùng Sơn, Vice President of the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam, and included participation from Dr. Đỗ Thanh Hải, Deputy Director General of the East Sea Institute, Dr. Nguyễn Thị Bích Ngọc, Assistant Director General of the Institute for Strategic Studies, along with other researchers and lecturers from various departments within the Academy.
The German delegation was led by Lieutenant General Wolf-Jürgen Stahl, Director of the Academy, accompanied by 22 members, all of whom hold leadership positions in various government agencies of the Federal Republic of Germany. The German Ambassador to Vietnam, Excellency Ms. Helga Margarete Barth, also attended the event.
During the exchange, the German delegates expressed interest in the political and security situation of the region, Vietnam's foreign and defense policies, the central role of ASEAN, and shared Germany’s concerns and policies toward the region. Additionally, the delegation provided updates on the situation in Europe, including developments in Ukraine, and discussed Germany’s perspectives and policies on related issues.
From the Vietnamese side, Dr. Đỗ Thanh Hải presented key points regarding maritime security in the region, while Dr. Nguyễn Thị Bích Ngọc discussed ASEAN’s activities in the context of great power competition in the region. Vietnam expressed appreciation for Germany’s role and efforts in security and development, and affirmed the vast potential for cooperation between the two countries, particularly in areas such as maritime capacity building and information exchange support.
The discussion took place in a candid and open atmosphere, contributing to mutual understanding in areas of shared interest.
