

The Trade Union (TU) of the Diplomatic Academy of Viet Nam is the grassroots trade union under that of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Established 65 years ago in the same year as the establishment of the DAV, the union has developed alongside the growth of DAV. Members of the DAV’s TU have firm political mettle, good moral quality, and a high degree of career profesionalism, being capable of completing task requests well, and work ceaselessly to innovate in a competitive manner. Currently, there are 278 trade union members in DAV (180 female staff, 98 male staff), belonging to 8 different divisions: The Institute for Foreign Policy and Strategic Studies, The East Sea Institute, The Department of Education and Training, the Library and Archive Center, The Administration Office, as well as both Linguistic and Professionalism Departments. The steering committee of DAV’s TU was elected in a Trade Union Congress of DAV, with a five-year tenure and a total of 11 committee members.


Under the supervision, leadership and guidance of DAV’s Party Central Committee and Board of Directors, DAV’s TU has closely adhered to the functions and tasks set out in the principles of the Viet Nam General Confederation of Labour. In this context, the DAV has transitioned to autonomous financing (DAV no longer receives Government funding), expanded its enrolment scale, continued to improve the quality of teaching, learning and research. Undertaking tasks in Track II diplomacy, DAV’s TU has initiated various innovations in implementing its duty. The DAV’s TU has continually thrived on fostering the development of the workers’ union, in order to fulfil all responsibilities in this new and changing context.
The role of DAV’s TU continues to be highlighted through its many practical activities. The duties of educational propaganda, ensuring spiritual well-being, protecing the legitimate rights and benefits of workers. In addition, DAV’s TU encourages members to participate in training courses to promote their professional expertise, programs for sports, culture, charity and other meaningful activities organized by the Trade Union of higher levels. The activities of the DAV’s Trade Union have contributed to the establishment of a strong trade union organization, making positive contributions to the construction and development process of the Diplomatic Academy in particular and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in general.
