DAV English Faculty and U.S. English Language Fellow Organize Pronunciation Course Closing Ceremony

16:41 26/07/2022

On July 20th, 2022, the English Faculty of the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam (DAV) worked with a U.S. English Language Fellow to coordinate the pronunciation course closing ceremony, held in the Berlin Conference Room.

Dr. Nguyen Thi Cat Ngoc, Dean of the English Faculty, and Mr. Mike Bailey, MA, English Language Fellow from the U.S. Embassy in Vietnam, led the closing ceremony along with other English faculty members, staff and students of the course.

Over ten weeks, approximately 60 DAV students participated in two sessions of the pronunciation course. Class sizes were small — approximately 15 students per class — and the participants represented various majors at DAV.

This course aimed at helping DAV students practice standard pronunciation and intonation, while improving fluency, accuracy and enhancing their English communication skills. Additionally, students had the opportunity to build their overall confidence in speaking.

At the ceremony, Dr. Ngoc shared with the students her experiences of learning English, practicing pronunciation skills and improving voice qualities so that listeners could better understand and become more engaged, particularly in academic and international contexts. She also welcomed and listened to students’ feedback and expectations in order to enhance the quality of pronunciation courses next year, as well as the overall English teaching at the DAV.

Vu Phuong Thao, leader of English-major students (intake 48), thanked Mr. Mike, the course instructor, as well as the English faculty and staff who supported students during the past few months. During the pronunciation class, participants had the opportunity to improve their skills while experiencing Mr. Mike’s different and engaging teaching methods. In particular, students found lessons about poetry and rhyme interesting as they helped promote learners’ creativity and motivation to engage English.

At the end of event, Dr. Ngoc extended her sincere thanks to Mr. Mike, who had been enthusiastic and supportive of the students. In this friendly and open atmosphere, Mr. Mike congratulated the students on completing the course and really improving their pronunciation skills, as well as having memorable experiences during the course. He hoped that in the future more students would participate in the pronunciation class and noted that the U.S. Embassy continues to support DAV’s work to promote  communication in English and intercultural understanding.
