11th South China Sea Conference of American Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS)

On July 30th, 2021, the US Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), the East Sea Research Fund (Vietnam) and other sponsor partners held the first session of the 11th South China Sea Conference in Washington DC. 

The session entitled "South China Sea Today’s Latest Developments" included the keynote speech by Congresswoman Elaine Luria, Vice Chair of the House Armed Services Committee, Former US Navy Commander, with the participation of Mr. Greg Poling, CSIS Chairman and Dr. Zack Cooper, American Enterprise Institute (AEI) as well as Dr. Nguyen Nam Duong from the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam.

The scholars discussed the Biden administration’s policy on the East Sea issue, focusing on the capabilities of the Navy, the US approach to China, and cooperation between the US and Southeast Asia partners. In addition, the conference also paid attention to the COC negotiations, the Quad and recent developments in the East Sea.

CSIS will hold the next sessions of the South China Sea conference series in the third and fourth quarters of 2021.
