Career Talk on International Communication with Journalist Nguyen Thu Ha

Continuing the success of the International Communication career talk series, on April 23rd, the Faculty of International Communication and Culture of the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam (DAV) organized a career talk with the theme: Political Commentary & International Current Affairs. The event was held for nearly 100 both second-year and third-year students in International Communication, aiming to give them an opportunity to gain deeper insight into the work of a journalist in television journalism, especially amid the current strong digital transformation.

The talk featured a special guest, Journalist Nguyen Thu Ha, Deputy Head of the Current Affairs Department at Vietnam Television (VTV), and was moderated by Mr. Nguyen Dong Anh, Vice Dean of the Faculty of International Communication and Culture.

Journalist Nguyen Thu Ha - Deputy Head of the Current Affairs Department at VTV - shared her insights into the journalism profession and the pressures involved in organizing and producing Current Affairs news bulletins.

During the talk, Journalist Nguyen Thu Ha shared a wealth of valuable knowledge on topics related to journalistic operations, skills in exploiting and synthesizing information, essential skills required of a diplomat or an international communication professional, as well as methods for building and operating engaging current affairs bulletins.

Journalist Thu Ha highly praised the structured training program of the International Communication major at the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam, along with the dynamic and creative International Communication students, even while they are still in school. Drawing from her many years of practical experience at the Current Affairs Department of VTV, Journalist Thu Ha inspired the students; offered numerous helpful pieces of advice; and encouraged them to continuously learn and cultivate knowledge to gain a comprehensive understanding of their own country. This, she emphasized, should serve as motivation to protect the nation's rights and interests, and to spread a positive image of Vietnam to the international media, regardless of the career path they pursue later on.

Journalist Thu Ha graduated from the Oriental Studies major at the Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO) in the Russian Federation in 1996. She started working at Vietnam Television in 1998, successively holding positions including: Editor and Commentator at the Current Affairs Department, Deputy Head of the Editorial Secretary Division, Deputy Head of the Domestic News Division, Head of the Social Affairs Division, Head of the Chào Buổi Sáng (Good Morning) Program, and eventually Deputy Head and Acting Head of the Current Affairs Department at VTV. She is an experienced journalist who has served as the Head of the Preliminary Jury for the National Press Award for many consecutive years.

After listening to the presentation, students from K45 and K46 of the DAV Communication Faculty had the opportunity to engage directly with the speaker in the Q&A session. This final segment was vibrant, filled with the open and eager-to-learn spirit of the students and the enthusiastic responses from Journalist Thu Ha.
