DAV Hosts Vice President of Japan Research Institute

On February 24, 2025, the Diplomatic Academy of Viet Nam (DAV) welcomed Ambassador Kunio Takahashi, Vice President of the Institute for International Strategy, Japan Research Institute, for a working session. This is his second time visiting the DAV, following his previous visit in February 2023.

Chairing the meeting, Dr. Do Thanh Hai, Deputy Director General of the East Sea Institute, provided an overview of DAV’s cooperation with Japanese entities and organizations, such as the Embassy of Japan, the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA), and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). Ambassador Takahashi expressed his deep appreciation for these strong ties and shared that he himself feels a special connection with Viet Nam and its people, having previously served at the Embassy of Japan in Viet Nam.

In a friendly and open discussion, both sides exchanged views on key international and regional political issues, including Viet Nam – China, Viet Nam – South Korea and China – Japan relations, the administration of newly-elected U.S. President Donald Trump, and developments in the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

As the meeting concluded, Dr. Do Thanh Hai expressed hope that the DAV and the Japan Research Institute could ensure continued exchanges in the future in order to strengthen research collaboration between the two institutions. Ambassador Takahashi warmly thanked DAV for the hospitality and said he looked forward to welcoming a delegation from the Academy to visit and work with the Japan Research Institute in Tokyo.
