15:00 19/11/2018

On Friday afternoon, November 2, 2018, under the organization of the English faculty, form teacher Ngo Diem Hang and Mr. Vo Tuan Son - alumni of course 40 majoring in English language, TA43C class of the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam had an extra-curricular trip at the Green One UN House.

The visit to the Green House - United Nations Office Building was organized to provide class TA43C with information and operation process on the building, which is located at 304 Kim Ma, Hanoi. It is home to nearly 94% of building materials and furniture that are recycled in order to efficiently use resources through smart eco-design and green operations management. The Green One UN House has also been awarded the LOTUS Platinum by the Vietnam Green Building Council (VGBC), the highest award in the assessment system for green buildings.

The house uses 408 solar panels, generating at least 110,000 kWh / year, which makes up for 10% of the total electricity consumed annually. With the criteria of transparency, the house is mainly designed with transparent glass, maximizing the use of sunlight and showing the staff’s seriousness in their works.

This extracurricular activity was a special opportunity for the students as they witness firsthand the United Nations meeting room, visiting the canteen and the gym for the staff. Furthermore, the students were also surprised and delighted when there were a meditation room, prayer room and unisex toilet for all genders, which strongly conveyed gender equality in the working environment of the United Nations.

During the tour, class TA43C students also exchanged and learned from talented young people from UN organizations. Students had the opportunity to listen to the stories,  motivations, and advice from governmental organizations such as Mr. Nguyen Nhat Linh, working at the UNESCO Asia - Pacific, Ms. Jun Yoomi working at the United Nations in Vietnam specializing in volunteering, Ms. Nguyen Diep working at UN WOMEN, through which the students want to partially find their orientation in future.

The trip which gave the students valuable experiences took place smoothly. TA43C class members sincerely thank the English Faculty, form teacher Ngo Diem Hang for paying favorable conditions for the class to learn and create beautiful memories. Hoping that the English Faculty in particular and DAV in general will continue to hold meaningful extracurricular sessions like this one for all the classes.
