Laos Minister of Foreign Affairs pays courtesy calls to Diplomatic Academy of Viet Nam and celebrates its 60th anniversary of establishment

At the reception and working session, President Nguyen Vu Tung reported to Minister Saleumxay Kommasith on the educational training of Laos undergraduates in the Academy as well as the partnership between two countries’ Diplomatic Academies.

President Nguyen Vu Tung reported the training of Laos undergraduates as well as the relations between Diplomatic Academy of Viet Nam and Diplomatic Academy of Laos in recent years. 

President of the Academy Nguyen Vu Tung said that Diplomatic Academy of Viet Nam and Diplomatic Academy of Laos frequently had annual delegation meeting to exchange experiences in research on such mutually concerned issues as diplomacy, security and politics. Two Diplomatic Academies also shared experiences on academics and research among scholars at regional and international multilateral conferences. The quality of exchange and research is increasingly substantive and effective.

In terms of training, there are currently nearly 100 Laos students studying in Diplomatic Academy of Viet Nam, including undergraduates, masters and doctors in 03 majors, namely International Relations, International Law and International Economics. The quality of Laos students is gradually improved, and they are always active in art and social work project initiated by the Academy. In terms of training for Laos diplomatic staff, Foreign Service Training Center currently has two training programs on Interpreting and Translating skills and Enhancing Diplomacy skills for Laos Diplomatic staff. These programmes provide comprehensive knowledge and diplomacy skills for Laos diplomatic staff and are highly valued by Laos.

In appreciation of the warm welcome from the directors, staff and lecturers of the Academy, Minister of Foreign Affairs Saleumxay Kommasith expressed his delight and pleasure to have a visit to Viet Nam again – where he is the Honorable Doctor. Laos Minister of Foreign Affairs also sent messages of thanks to the Academy for supporting and assisting by training Laos students and staff. Several students, after graduation, have returned to Laos, become leaders at the local areas as well as in Laos Ministries, Departments and Sectors and had contributions to the building and development of Laos.

Minister of Foreign Affairs also expressed his absolute delight at the increasingly effective partnership between two countries’ Diplomatic Academy, especially in education and training.

Agreeing with the President of the Academy Nguyen Vu Tung’s proposals and recommendations on cooperative aspects between two Academies, Minister Saleumxay Kommasith suggested that two sides continued to work more closely and promote the cooperative aspects, enhancing the research and training activities between two Academies to meet the training requirements in the new context.
