

Over the years, issues related to the sea have always received special attention from international and internal public opinion. With the enthusiastic support from the Embassy of the Netherlands in Vietnam, the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam was honored to welcome Professor Alex Oude Elferink, Director of the Netherlands Institute for the Law of the Sea (NILOS), Utrecht University, the Netherlands to lecture on the topic "Legal regulations of overlapping seas and maritime delimitation issue".

The lecture will provide background knowledge about the legal regulations of overlapping seas and the practice of marine delimitation in comparison with current hot spots. This is not only an opportunity to acquire knowledge but also to exchange and learn from one of the world's top sea law experts. Prof. Alex Oude Elferink has brought out many publications on the delimitation of the sea, the definition and outer limits of the continental shelf, protection of the marine environment, and other issues of the sea law. In addition, Professor has also had articles on highlighted issues in the East Sea recently such as Oil rig HD 981 and arbitration rulings according to 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea’s Appendix VII on the dispute between the Philippines and China.
