Mr. Hartmut Nassauer visits DAV and holds talks with students

HANOI 31/5/2012 - Mr. Hartmut Nassauer, a former Member of the European Parliament, head of a European Union-ASEAN Parliamentary Friendship Group, and former Minister of Home Affairs of Hessen State in the Federal Republic of Germany, had a working session and held talks with students of the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam (DAV) here in Hanoi on May 31st.

Ms. Nguyen Thai Yen Huong, the Vice President of DAV, Mr. Nguyen Van Lich, Head of the International Economics Faculty, and Mr. Nguyen Tien Phong, Head of the External Relations Department received Mr. Nassauer and participated in the talks.

Mr. Nassauer expressed his happiness to have chance to visit and have talks with DAV students.

During the talks with DAV students, Mr. Nassauer mentioned the establishment process of the European Union (EU), features of organizations and structures of EU, prospects and development potentials of the Association of the Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). Then he provided assessments and analyses on the differences of the two organizations in terms of cooperation goals and scopes among member states. At the same time, Mr. Nassauer talked about public debts in Europe, especially the effects of these debts and gave out some solutions to this problem. Last but not least, he talked about prospects of cooperation process between EU and ASEAN in the future.

At the end of talks, DAV students had chance to have a fruitful and active “Q&A session” with Mr. Nassauer. Students’ questions are mostly related to the issues that Mr. Nassauer had mentioned earlier in his presentation such as effects of EU, lessons learnt from the integration process of EU for ASEAN and the problem of public debts in Europe among others.

This was a very useful talk for students to help them further understandings of development process of EU and lessons learnt for ASEAN in the development issues as well as cooperation prospects with EU in the future.
