“Nguyen Co Thach” Scholarship Award Ceremony

On December 10th 2021, the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam had an honour to organize “Nguyen Co Thach” Scholarship Award Ceremony at the head office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs where the most outstanding students of the Academy gathered. The event was part of the 100th birth anniversary of former Poliburo member, Vice Chairman of the Council of Ministers and Foreign Minister Nguyen Co Thach (1921 - 2021).

Attending the ceremony was Poliburo member, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Head of Party Central Committee’s Organisation Commission Truong Thi Mai; Poliburo member, Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Pham Binh Minh; Member of Party Central Committee, Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son; Member of Party Central Committee, Head of Party Central Committee’s Commission for External Relations Le Hoai Trung; leaders of ministries and departments at central level, in Hanoi and in Nam Dinh province; spouse of  late Foreign Minister Nguyen Co Thach, Madam Phan Thi Phuc and other members of his family; heads and former heads of the Foreign Ministry and veteran officials of the diplomatic service; ambassadors and heads of Vietnamese representative agencies in foreign countries; officials of departments under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; representatives of sponsors, as well as news and press agencies.

Throughout the event, participants were shared stories about the late Vice Chairman of the Council of Ministers and Foreign Minister Nguyen Co Thach, by current and former high-ranking officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Documentaries on the biography and the glorious career path of the late leader were also shown, through which more than 60 years of revolutionary and nearly 40 years of external relations were illustrated. With ambition, strategic thinking and the determination for renovation, former Foreign Minister Nguyen Co Thach became a symbol of Vietnam’s diplomatic service, and played a part in the crucial success of Vietnam in international arena. The role model for constantly striving forward as seen in former Foreign Minister Nguyen Co Thach has been the exemplary case for generations of young diplomatic officers - talents to contribute to the development of the country.

In order to inherit the spirit and vision of former Foreign Minister Nguyen Co Thach in training young diplomatic officers, the Nguyen Co Thach Scholarship initiative was founded. The Nguyen Co Thach Scholarship is of great significance and suit the current situation of the diplomatic service as Vietnam is in need of competent, professtional and innovative workforce who can embrace international integration amid the chances in Vietnam and the world.

The Nguyen Co Thach Scholarship initiative was established to encourge young talents - students of the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam with outstanding academic results, highly praised research, and commendable leadership, to learn from the ideologies and visions of  former Foreign Minister Nguyen Co Thach.

After several rounds of meticulous and transparent consideration, the scholarship council of examiners nominated nine students for the first batch of Nguyen Co Thach Scholarship. Among them, one student received the Special Award, two students were given the Award of Excellence, and six students were granted the Award of Potentials.

Six Awards of Potentials: Pham Duc Minh (Cohort 45 - English Langage); Le Thu Trang (Cohort 46 - International Relations); Dao Son Anh (Cohort 45 - International Relations), Dinh Thi Tung Lam (Cohort 47 - International Law), Hoang Dieu Linh (Cohort 45 - International Economics), Tran Phuong Thao (Cohort 45 - International Communications)

It can be said that the sound success of the Nguyen Co Thach Scholarship programme in its very first year proved the special attention from leaders of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam in particular, as well as the enthusiastic support from DAV’s former students, sponsors and other organisations.

The Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam strongly believes that worthy recipients of the Nguyen Co Thach Scholarship lit the fire of knowledge and talents. Their youthful energy is contagious and hopefully, these young talents will continue to try their best and succeed in serving the country, the people, contributing to the society and building a bright future for themselves. They all deserve the honour and pride that were bestowed on this day.
