Postgraduate Dao Dinh Ky successfully defended the Academy-level doctoral thesis

On August 21, 2019, at the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam, postgraduate student Dao Dinh Ky has successfully defended the Academy-level doctoral thesis specialized in International Relations, code 9.31.02.06 with the topic "Main foreign policy of Cambodia under Prime Minister Hun Sen (1997-2017)”, under the scientific guidance of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Que and Dr. Do Thi Thanh Binh.

The Council highly appreciates the thesis contributions. This is the first systematic study in Vietnam on Cambodia's foreign policy with major countries, neighboring countries, regional and international organizations; on that basis, to evaluate the achievements, limitations, and characteristics of Cambodia's foreign policy in the 1997-2017 period, make forecasts about Cambodia's foreign policy adjustment trend until 2028. In terms of science, The thesis contributes to enriching studies on Cambodian foreign policy, supplementing and updating many information and documents on Cambodian foreign policy during the integration period. In practical terms, the thesis contributes to identifying the core content of Cambodia's foreign policy under Prime Minister Hun Sen (1997-2017) such as objectives, principles, motto, tasks, directions, and Cambodia's foreign policy implementation process with major countries, neighboring countries, regional and international organizations, creating a more comprehensive assessment basis, serving the advisory and policy-making work of Vietnam in relations with Cambodia in the coming time. The thesis is a good reference source for research, teaching, and academic exchanges on Cambodia's foreign policy in particular and international relations in general.

The defense ceremony takes place in a serious atmosphere and in accordance with the regulations of doctoral training. The student presented the main research results of the thesis and answered well the questions from the Council. The Council concludes that Dao Dinh Ky deserves the doctorate in International Relations with 7/7 votes passed, of which 6/7 excellent votes.
