

On April 25th, 2019, at the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam the Ph.D student, Vu Tien Dat successfully defended the Academy-level doctoral thesis specialized in International Relations, code 9.31.02.06 with the topic "An oil security in the process of international integration of Vietnam from 1995 up to now ”, under the scientific guidance of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Do Son Hai and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Anh Tuan.

The Council highly appreciated the contributions of the thesis. The thesis was a systematic scientific work on practical basis related to the position of the oil industry in the development of the Vietnamese economy. Besides, the thesis also focused on analyzing the impacts of the international integration process on Vietnam’s oil industry from the perspective of research on international relations. The thesis had synthesized and analyzed clearly the role of oil in enhancing and strengthening the national interests of Vietnam, in which emphasised on the position of oil for economic growth and development goals, ensuring national energy security, protecting national sovereignty at sea and promoting international integration. On the basis of presenting the current oil security situation in the international integration process of Vietnam in the period 1995-2017, the thesis outlined important achievements, pointed out the limitations and proposed some solutions and recommendations for Vietnam to ensure oil security in the international integration process until 2030. The thesis can be used as a reference in teaching and researching on a number of topics related to non-traditional security (such as energy security, oil security...) in the field of international relations.

The protection ceremony took place in a serious atmosphere and in accordance with the regulations of the doctoral training. The postgraduate presented the main research results of the thesis and answered well the questions from the Council. The Council concludes that postgraduate Vu Tien Dat deserves the Doctor degree in International Relations with 7/7 passed votes, of which 5/7 excellent votes.
