On the morning of August 28th 2020, the Diplomatic Strategy Research Institute, the Diplomatic Academy of Viet Nam and the Chinese Embassy in Vietnam, the Chongqing Academy of Finance under the People's University of China jointly organized the online seminar "Celebrating 70 years of establishing diplomatic relations between Vietnam and China". The talk was attended by Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Van Thao, Chinese Ambassador to Vietnam Xiong Bo (Hung Ba), Vice-Rector of People's University of China Wu Xiaoqiu (Ngo Hieu Cau), and representatives of relevant offices, Vietnamese and Chinese experts and scholars.

In his opening speech, Assistant Foreign Minister Nguyen Van Thao reiterated that China was the first country in the world to establish diplomatic relations with Vietnam. Over the past 70 years, the Vietnam - China friendship and cooperation has always been the key trend of bilateral relations; China gave the Vietnamese revolutions great encouragement and support. The two peoples will always remember the great contributions made by senior leaders of the two countries, including President Ho Chi Minh and Chairman Mao Zedong to the Vietnam - China friendship.

Comrade Nguyen Van Thao emphasized that the Communist Party and Government of Vietnam always attached great importance to the development of a comprehensive Vietnam - China strategic cooperation partnership, ready to further strengthen mutually beneficial cooperation in all fields with China at both the bilateral and multilateral level. He said that promoting the Vietnam - China relations in-depth and substantially effective was also of great importance. The healthy and stable development of Vietnam - China friendship and cooperation contributed to maintaining peace and stability in the region and the world. Currently, the world economic-political situation has changed deeply and complicatedly, leading to many new issues and challenges. He expressed his hope that the experts from both sides would research extensively, strengthen exchanges, and contribute positively to the development of the bilateral relationship.

Ambassador Xiong Bo reviewed the 70-year development of Sino-Vietnamese relations since the establishment of diplomatic relations. At the same time, he emphasized that the Sino-Vietnamese traditional friendship personally built and cultivated by senior leaders of the two countries such as Chairman Mao Zedong and President Ho Chi Minh was a common valuable asset of the two parties and two countries. As a result, it needed to be constantly consolidated and developed. It was the common interest of the two countries, conducive to the maintenance of peace and stability in the region and the world. He said that the world was witnessing unprecedented immense changes that had profound effects on the international economy and politics. In that context, the Sino-Vietnamese relations also had great strategic significance to the stability and development of the two countries as well as regional peace and stability. He expressed his wish that China and Vietnam fully realized the important common perception reached by the senior leaders of the two parties and two countries, He hoped that both countries did not forget the initial aspirations to build the traditional Sino-Vietnamese friendship. Viet Nam and China recognized and took the Sino-Vietnamese relations’ direction of development from a strategic height, promoted the comprehensive Sino-Vietnamese strategic cooperation partnership to constantly move forward, brought the meaning of the new age for the traditional friendship between the two countries.

At the seminar, Vietnamese and Chinese experts and scholars had a frank and in-depth discussion on 70 years of Vietnam - China relations and international and regional issues that both sides are interested in./.
