

On November 14th 2018, the Institute for Foreign Policy and Strategic Studies - Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam held a seminar with the China Public Diplomacy Association delegation led by Mr. Lan Lap Tuan. The participants were researchers, lecturers of the Institute for Foreign Policy and Strategic Studies, the Institute for South China Sea Studies, and the International Politics and Diplomacy Department.

The Seminar mainly focused on issues of (i) the U.S-China relations and China’s opinion on the U.S-China trade affairs, and (ii) China’s reactions in the China-ASEAN relations. Regarding the U.S-China trade war, the Chinese delegates said, this is just a “contact” or a “game” that the Americans started out and affirmed that China is not afraid or scared of U.S threatens in this “game”, at the same time suggested that the two countries would hardly be able to reach a consensus to solve this conflict in a near future.
Regarding the China-ASEAN relations, they also highly appreciated the development of the China-ASEAN strategic partnership and asserted to continue enhancing political trust, economic cooperation, cultural exchange and would be soon to negotiate and sign the COC.
The discussion was organized with an open, outspoken and cooperative manner. Both sides had straightforward and open exchange opinions regarding mentioned issues.
