

On the morning of October 16, 2018 at the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam (DAV), a seminar on the European Union took place with the speaker Mr. Fabrice LARAT, Deputy Director of Training and Research Department, National School of Public Administration (ENA) in France. The seminar was chaired by Mr. Duong Thanh Binh, Deputy Director of Center for Scientific Information and in charge of French-language cooperation programs chaired by DAV. The seminar was attended by DAV’s researchers, lecturers, students and French graduate students, especially with the participation of Ms. Laurence Mezin, Head of the Law-Justice-Governance unit of the French Embassy in Vietnam.

The topic of the discussion revolved around the European Union (EU) with its current difficulties and future prospects. The above topic was analyzed in depth by French experts on 5 main points: the current state of the EU, the main features of the EU, the challenges posed to the union, the assessment of the people of the EU member states on the residual issues as well as the benefits, and finally the prospects of the EU in the coming time.

Following up the presentation was the Q&A session of the DAV students with the experts. The questions were largely related to the European Union such as the role of France and German in uniting the Union members and strengthening the EU, populism in Europe, the challenge of the EU expansion, or the adoption of a resolution to punish Poland by the European Parliament, including the application of Article 7 of the Treaty of Lisbon…; while a few questions were about studying in France such as the criteria to attend the National School of Public Administration (ENA) in France …

The seminar took place in a warming atmosphere and ended with a photoshoot section between DAV’s lecturers, students and the French scholar.
