Talks with Malaysian delegation from Global Movement of Moderates (GMM)

On May, 9^th 2012, the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam held talks with the GMM delegation led by Director Kim Beng Phar. The meeting was chaired by Mr. Hoang Anh Tuan, Director General of Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies, with participation of young researchers from the Institute. The meeting took place an open, cooperative, and outspoken atmosphere. The primary substance of the meeting included the introduction on GMM and Malaysian moderates; promotion of Vietnam - Malaysia relationship, ASEAN’s cooperation and matters of mutual concern.

According to Mr. Kim Beng Phar, the goals for establishing the GMM are for peace, regional stability, limiting negative voice of extremists, and promoting commitments to democratic values. Above all, the idea has been expanded to other fields such as political, economic, cultural and social affairs. The GMM will be expanded on national, regional, and international level.

Regarding the promotion of Vietnam - Malaysia relations, the two sides have agreed on elevating them to a higher level and advancing towards strategic partnership. The two sides also discussed concrete substance to promote substantial developments of bilateral ties. Mr. Kim also deemed the GMM as an appropriate factor to foster bilateral ties.
