“VIET NAM CISG PRE-MOOT 2019”

Foreign Trade University (FTU), in cooperation with Vietnam International Arbitration Center (VIAC); Vietnam Society of International Law (VSIL) and the Vietnam Business Lawyers Club (VBLC), held the "Vietnam CISG Pre-Moot 2019". The Contest created a helpful, attractive playground for Vietnamese Law-majored students to expand their knowledge and legal practice skills. 

This year is the first time that CISC Pre-moot is organized in Viet Nam, drawing the participation of 30 teams from Law universities and majors across the nation. As a moot arbitration based on a dispute about an international sales contract, the contestants will learn about not only CISG provisions and how to apply them in dispute resolution but also can practice advocacy skills in English in front of an arbitral Tribunal including prestigious domestic and international experts. 

After more than three months of launching, the Contest found 12 best teams from 8 universities nationwide, including Hanoi Law University, School of Law - Vietnam National University, University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City, Foreign Trade University, Ho Chi Minh City University of Law, University of Economic and Law Ho Chi Minh City, Law Faculty - National Economics University, Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam. These teams moved into the Adversarial round. On March 2nd, 2019, teams have brought equal performances, not only showcasing good legal knowledge foundations but also their bravery and advocacy skills in English. Afterwards, they found 02 most outstanding teams for the Final, namely DAV Vis East Team 2019 and DAV Vis 2019.

The final round and the award ceremony were organized on a large scale at VJCC Hall, Foreign Trade University on March 3rd, 2019. On the final night, in terms of guests, there were top lawyers, specialists in international trade law. Besides, there were representatives of the board of organizers: Assoc. Prof Dr Bui Anh Tuan - Principal of Foreign Trade University; Assoc. Prof Le Thi Thu Thuy - Vice Principal of Foreign Trade University; Dr Pham Lan Dung, Secretary-General of Viet Nam Society of International Law, Vice-President of Diplomatic Academy of Viet Nam; Vu Anh Duong - Vice Chairman of VIAC; Phan Trong Dat - Deputy Secretary-General of VIAC, Dinh Anh Tuyet, Vice Chairwoman of VBLC; Dr Pham Thu Huong - Head of Academic Department at Foreign Trade University; Assoc. Prof. Dr Nguyen Minh Hang - Dean of the Law Faculty and Dr Ha Cong Anh Bao - Vice Dean of Law Faculty at Foreign Trade University. There were also a lot of interested students present at the contest.

After nearly two hours of an intense adversary, two teams demonstrated sharp reasoning, confidence, bravery, creating a professional and exciting final round until the last minute. The final result was that DAV Vis East Team 2019 won the tight race. With a mission to create opportunities for students to research, apply CISG and advocacy skills in English, Viet Nam CISG Pre-moot will continue taking place annually.
