From choosing the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam on a whim, Nguyễn Thanh Hà—affectionately known as "Ms. Hà Blue"—has embarked on an 11-year journey with the institution. Post-graduation, she continued her academic path and decided to return to her alma mater, becoming of those who stayed to support those who come. Students remember her not only for her extensive expertise, but also her warmth, wit, and ability to inspire independent thinking in every class. Hers is not just a story of personal growth—it’s a journey of carrying the torch for a school with generations of talented, dynamic, and confident students.

From an "Impulsive" Choice to a Place She Couldn't Bear to Leave

"I chose Diplomacy because... my former crush studied Diplomacy, so I just applied too!". This humorous opening statement from Nguyen Thanh Ha—a K41 alumna of English Language Studies, now a lecturer at the English Department of the Diplomatic Academy—kicked off our conversation with this humorous remark, which drew laughter but also marked the beginning of her heartfelt 11-year journey of connection, growth, and pride at the Academy.

Thanh Ha came to the Academy with a rather emotional decision, without excessive deliberation or consideration. But unexpectedly, it became the place where she began a serious and memorable academic journey.

"After becoming a student here, I realized how dynamic the environment was—everyone was smart and driven. That’s when I saw that this place suited me," she shares. From a student who was just "giving it a try," Ha quickly adapted and gradually proved her abilities through relentless effort. From her first year, Hà developed a consistent self-study routine, took the initiative to improve her English, thoroughly prepared for classes, and actively engaged with her professors to better grasp the material. It was this shift to a serious mindset that made her story unique.

“The Diplomatic Spirit”, through the Eyes of a Young Lecturer

An alumna and now lecturer,  Thanh Hà has a clear perspective on what gives the Diplomatic Academy its unique value. For her, it’s not the prestige or facilities—but the students themselves: their independence, eagerness to learn, and, most of all, their confidence. She calls this the “Diplomatic Spirit.”

"What impresses me most isn’t the infrastructure or reputation—it’s the students. They’re incredibly proactive, confident, and take responsibility for their learning. That’s why I chose to stay," she emphasized.

She also stressed the importance of self-discipline during the early years of university, as well as having a clear direction by the third or fourth year—when students should begin transitioning from “learners” to “doers.”

Recalling her own student days, Hà remembers the ups and downs—moments of academic struggle that became motivation, long emails to professors about disappointing exam results, and some regrets over not participating more in clubs and extracurriculars. Through it all, she learned that actively joining clubs and building soft skills early on would’ve made her academic journey even more meaningful.

An 11-year Journey Carrying the Torch

After graduating, Thanh Ha started working at a company but quickly realized that office work wasn't her passion. With the decision to return for a master's degree and become a lecturer at the Diplomatic Academy, she began her journey of "keeping the flame alive" and carrying the torch for subsequent generations of students.

Now, 11 years since she first stepped into the school on a whim, Hà has become a committed faculty member. She not only imparts knowledge but also fuels passion and a love for learning among her students.

One standout aspect of Hà’s journey is that she never walked it alone. Her time at the Academy has been filled with meaningful relationships, especially with her long-time mentor, Dr. Kiều Thị Thu Hương.

"Dr. Hương has been by my side since I was a student to when I started a family. She’s always there to guide and support me, whether in studies, teaching, or life."

This mentorship has not only helped Hà grow in her academic career, but also inspired her to pass on a spirit of respect and gratitude to teachers. Because of this, Hà is now one of the most beloved lecturers in the Faculty of English—not just for her solid knowledge, but for her approachable, witty, and enthusiastic presence, both in and out of the classroom.

From a student who chose the school "because of one person" to a lecturer who decided to stay "because of many people," Thanh Ha exemplifies the journey of growth from curiosity, stumbling, learning to dedicated inspiration for the next generation. It's not just an 11-year journey with Diplomacy, but a journey of creating a better version of herself every day.

Looking at Hà’s story, we realize the Academy is not only a place that nurtures those who go far, but also one that holds on to those who truly believe in the power of education and the dream of empowering the next generation.
