Đinh Trần Yến Nhi — former student of the International Relations program, Cohort 47, at the Diplomatic Academy and the valedictorian of the International Politics and Diplomacy Department — has experienced an unforgettable four-year journey. What began as a hesitant choice turned into a story not only of academic achievement but also of heartfelt growth and deep connection with the Academy.

Choosing the Diplomatic Academy — A Journey of the Heart

Few know that the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam— the place that accompanied Yến Nhi through her youthful years — was not her initial first choice. Having been majored in Maths for her high school years,  she once feared it would be a “waste” to enter a field with little contact with her beloved subject. For this reason, she initially chose an economics-focused university, even receiving early admission and was on the verge of becoming a student.

Yet, as enrollment day approached, she found herself quietly reflecting and doubting. She confided in her mother: “Is this really the right decision? Am I just choosing the ‘safe’ path rather than following my true heart?” Encouraged and supported by her mother, the 17-year-old bravely declined the pre-set path to pursue what truly called to her — the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam. Looking back, Yến Nhi affirms, “If I hadn’t listened to my heart that day, I wouldn’t have had such a wonderful experience.”

The Perseverant Journey of a Valedictorian

Throughout her studies, Yến Nhi not only absorbed specialized knowledge but also developed critical thinking, diplomatic skills, confidence, and a grounded sense of social responsibility. “The Academy doesn’t just train us to be political or diplomatic experts — it shapes us into global citizens,” she emphasizes.

Beyond academics, Yến Nhi actively engaged in extracurricular activities. As a member of the MC Club, Guitar Club, and a communications ambassador for environmental campaigns and psychology projects, she viewed these as opportunities to broaden her perspective, build soft skills, and connect with the community.

The highlight of her journey was participating in an international student exchange program in South Korea — a chance not only for cultural exchange but also to enhance language skills and confidence in a multinational environment, crucial for her field of study.

Graduating with outstanding results and honored as valedictorian, Yến Nhi sees this not as an endpoint but as the start of a lifelong journey. “I understand that knowledge is ever-evolving, and diplomacy requires flexibility and sharpness in every situation.”

A Beautiful Youth and Words for Future Generations

Her four years at the Diplomatic Academy were filled with challenges, experiences, and unforgettable memories. For Yến Nhi, the greatest treasure wasn’t the accolades but the lasting bonds with friends, professors, and seniors. The Academy felt like a close-knit family, where everyone shared, supported, and overcame difficulties together.

For her, the Academy is more than a school — it’s a “second home” that helped her mature, discover passion, and find clear direction for the future. “If I had the choice again, I would still choose the Diplomatic Academy. It gave me the chance to live my dreams, keep learning, and grow every day.”

One of her most important milestones was earning the prestigious Nguyễn Cơ Thạch scholarship — a deserved reward for her persistent efforts and a powerful motivation to stay confident in her path.

To those still uncertain about their career or school choices, Yến Nhi offers this advice: “Listen to your heart and pursue what you truly love. The path may not be straight, and you may stumble, but if you persevere, you will find your own unique value.” Especially for those passionate about diplomacy and international politics, she encourages active participation in social activities, building soft skills and language abilities, and continuously broadening horizons.
