On Sunday, 17 November 2024, the National Round of the International Humanitarian Law (IHL) Moot Court Competition 2024 concluded with great success at the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam. The event gathered faculty members of the Faculty of International Law, national observers, and an esteemed panel of judges representing reputable legal institutions. The competition was further honored by the presence of two legal advisers from the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), whose participation added depth and expertise to the proceedings.
This year’s competition welcomed ten university teams from law faculties across the country, each demonstrating strong legal knowledge, rigorous preparation, and impressive advocacy skills. Throughout the General Round and Final Round, teams engaged in intellectually demanding arguments on issues of international humanitarian law, showcasing their ability to analyse complex legal scenarios under pressure. The Organizing Committee noted the determination, professionalism, and spirited performance of all participants, affirming that—regardless of final ranking, each team had achieved meaningful progress and shown commendable commitment to the discipline.

The National Semifinal marked a particularly exciting stage of the competition. After a series of intense and carefully argued moot sessions, the judging panel worked with professionalism and fairness to identify the two strongest teams to advance to the National Final. Following deliberation, team DAV1 and team HCML1 earned their places in the concluding round, reflecting their outstanding performances throughout the competition.

The conclusion of the 2024 National Round underscores the competition’s role as a vital academic forum for fostering legal reasoning, advocacy skills, and a deeper understanding of international humanitarian law among Vietnamese students. This year’s strong performances reflected the increasing professionalism and enthusiasm within the moot community nationwide, setting a promising foundation for future editions of the competition and reaffirming the significance of IHL education in shaping the next generation of legal practitioners.
