Public lecture on “Legal regime of overlapping areas and Maritime Delimitation”

Recent years witness the increasing attention to the law of the sea by states and public audience, both international and national. Sponsored by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Viet Nam, the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam is very honoured to have Professor Alex Oude Elferink, Director of the Netherlands Institute for the Law of the Sea (NILOS), Utrecht University (the Netherlands) to give a public lecture on “Legal regime of overlapping areas and Maritime Delimitation”.

The lecture will cover an overview on legal regime of overlapping areas and maritime delimitation under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea and in practice, with speacial reference to some current disputed areas in the region. It will also provide a precious oppurtunity for govermental officers, scholars and public audience in Vietnam to discuss contemporary issues of shared interest in the region. Professor Alex Oude Elferink has published a number of academic works in maritime delimitation, continental shelf and polar regime. He also has written on the South China Sea issues. He has been invited to be legal adviser for states in several cases before international courts or tribunals.
