On 29 March 2018, in the framework of the 2018 Ambassador’s Forum, Malaysian Ambassador Malaysia Zamruni Khalid had talks with researchers from Institute of Strategic Studies and Institute of East Sea Studies, lecturers and students from the Department of International Politics and Diplomacy ; the talks were themed Regional structures and Bilateral relations”.

Vice President of the DAV, Mr. Le Hai Binh, cordially receives Malaysian Ambassador Zamruni Khalid

According to Ambassador Zamruni Khalid, the regional security structure is presently impacted by various factors, exerting pressures on ASEAN such as economic transformation, especially the rise of newly emerging economies; and competition among powers, typically the US and China. To cope with these challenges, ASEAN needs to formulate regional structures via cooperation frameworks: (i) ASEAN – China Treaty for “Good Neighbourly and Friendly Cooperation”(proposed by China), (ii)  Framework of principles on strengthening security cooperation in the Asia-Pacific (proposed by Russia), (iii) Free and Open Indo-Pacific Strategy (proposed by Indonesia). Regarding bilateral relations, Ambassador Zamruni Khalid held the view that current relations between Vietnam and Malaysia are undergoing very healthy developments in politics, economics, people-to-people diplomacy, etc. In commemoration of the 45th founding anniversary of diplomatic relations between Malaysia and Vietnam (1973-2018), Malaysian Embassy in Hanoi will organise a series of activities such as culture weeks, cuisine fairs, education exhibitions, etc.
