On May 9, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ha Anh Tuan, Acting Dean of the Faculty of International Politics and Diplomacy (FIPAD), gave an interview to Vietnam Today (the Foreign Service Television Channel of Vietnam Television) on the sidelines of the 48th ASEAN Summit, which he attended as a scholar via the Track 1.5 dialogue.

During the interview, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ha Anh Tuan observed that while ASEAN continues to uphold the spirit of solidarity and consensus, there was a more pronounced sense of urgency compared to many previous summits. This stems from the fact that regional cooperation is no longer solely about economic integration or community building, but is increasingly tied to resilience against energy shocks, price volatility, and supply chain disruptions. In a geopolitical landscape increasingly shaped by energy security, oil diplomacy, and supply chain control, ASEAN is urged to take a proactive stance to adapt.

Assessing Vietnam's role, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ha Anh Tuan noted that Prime Minister Le Minh Hung's direct attendance at the summit—which also marked his first official overseas trip in his new capacity—served as an important diplomatic signal. It re-affirmed that ASEAN remains a top strategic priority in Vietnam's foreign policy. Vietnam does not view ASEAN merely as a diplomatic forum, but as a strategic community where political trust must be consolidated, substantive cooperation promoted, and leadership connectivity enhanced.

At the same time, he emphasized that contemporary competition extends beyond border and territorial issues to revolve around technology, standards, and strategic bottlenecks in supply chains. In this context, Vietnam pursues an approach that promotes partner diversification, strengthens internal resources, and deepens regional integration. This is a clear manifestation of strategic autonomy achieved through enhanced national connectivity, resilience, and adaptability.

The participation and scholarly contributions of the Acting Dean at such a critical regional forum as the ASEAN Summit not only demonstrate the academic prestige and research capacity of the Faculty of International Politics and Diplomacy's lecturers but also bring great honor and pride to the Faculty in its mission to advance academic connectivity, policy research, and international dialogue.
