

The Diplomatic Academy of Viet Nam (DAV) hosted a working session with a delegation from the National Foundation for Science and Technology Development (NAFOSTED)* to exchange views on recent innovations in the research funding mechanism and directions for promoting research in the social sciences and humanities. The meeting was chaired by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Lan Anh, Vice President of DAV.
The NAFOSTED delegation was led by Dr. Nguyen Phu Binh, Deputy Director of the NAFOSTED Executive Agency, and included representatives of the leadership and professional staff of the Department of Social Sciences and Humanities. Representing DAV were leaders and representatives from relevant functional units, research institutes, academic departments, as well as many lecturers and researchers.
In her remarks, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Lan Anh underscored DAV’s role as a leading institution under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in education and training, research, forecasting and strategic policy advice. She expressed her hope that NAFOSTED would continue to support DAV in strengthening research capacity, developing a new generation of young researchers, and implementing high-quality scientific research projects with both academic value and practical relevance.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Lan Anh highly appreciated NAFOSTED’s recent efforts to modernize and digitalize its procedures, enhance transparency and strengthen the autonomy of host institutions. She also encouraged relevant units to proactively disseminate the Foundation’s new regulations and encouraged lecturers and researchers to actively participate in NAFOSTED-funded programmes, particularly in areas of DAV’s expertise, including international relations, international law, the East Sea, diplomacy, security and policymaking.
For his part, Dr. Nguyen Phu Binh introduced key innovations in NAFOSTED’s operations under the new regulatory framework governing science, technology and
innovation. He highlighted the Foundation’s shift from a procedure-based management approach towards one that places greater emphasis on research outcomes and impact.
The NAFOSTED representative further emphasized the Foundation’s commitment to supporting capable researchers in addressing major challenges facing the country, with a focus on generating research outputs with practical applicability, contributing to evidence-based policymaking and socio-economic development.
The working session contributed to further strengthening cooperation between DAV and NAFOSTED and opened new opportunities for the development of high-quality research projects, thereby making practical contributions to addressing strategic issues in support of the country’s development.
