General Introduction to the Library of the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam (DAV)

A FEW HIGHLIGHTS OF THE DIPLOMATIC ACADEMY OF VIETNAM LIBRARY

The Library of the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam (DAV) was established and has developed alongside the founding and growth of the Academy since 1959. Throughout its operation, the DAV Library has played a crucial role in serving the Academy's work in training, research, foreign affairs, and international cooperation, providing resources for generations of students, faculty, researchers at the Academy, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Library currently holds approximately 46,381 resources, including over 29,430 book titles, nearly 5,500 bachelor's theses, master's dissertations, and doctoral theses, over 500 reports on scientific research projects at various levels, 25 types of Vietnamese newspapers and magazines, and 15 types of foreign newspapers and magazines. The Library's reference books cover specialized content on International Relations; International Economics; International Law; Regional and Global Issues; Marxism - Leninism and Ho Chi Minh's Thought; Vietnam's domestic and foreign policies; and the political, historical, cultural, religious, defense, and security situations of Vietnam and many countries worldwide. The collection of textbooks, monographs, references, and learning materials for all training programs is prioritized for annual updates and supplements.

Beside traditional printed materials, the Library provides access to various domestic and international electronic databases to meet the increasingly diverse needs of learning, teaching, and research. The Library offers an E-book system (click here), online scientific journals, and prestigious full-text databases such as ProQuest Central, EBSCO along with numerous specialized resources in International Relations, Economics, Law, and Regional Studies (click here). The development of these digital resources enables readers to quickly access updated, diverse, and highly reliable knowledge within the international academic environment

In 2021, the DAV Library was renovated and expanded (increasing its area more than threefold) and equipped with modern facilities. The Library is currently divided into three floors comprising five reading rooms with a total area of 2,199.5 square meters. Many reading rooms have been sponsored by foreign partners such as China, the United States, France, and Australia, providing equipment and networked computers for internet access and resource searching. The Library's storage repository has an area of 500 square meters.

Currently, the Library is invested in and upgraded towards a Smart Library model under the Smart Library Project funded by KOICA, implementing modern library management systems and advanced technological equipment to enhance service quality. The system integrates solutions for document management, search, borrowing, and returning. The Library has deployed the TULIP software system and its website at https://lib.dav.edu.vn. Furthermore, RFID technology has been applied to documents alongside hardware such as security gates, self-service loan and return kiosks, card printers, scanners, barcode printers, and other supporting devices. This system contributes to step-by-step building a modern, convenient library environment, increasing self-service capabilities, and elevating the reader experience.

In the 2025 - 2030 period, the Library aims for comprehensive development: enhancing its resource collection, modernizing facilities, and building a high-quality electronic and digital library. Simultaneously, it intends to expand its service scope not only within the Academy and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs but also to agencies, ministries, sectors, and training/refresher institutions nationwide. Notably, the Library strives to become the digital knowledge data center of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the future.
