President of the Republic of Bulgaria Rumen Radev visits the Diplomatic Academy of Viet Nam

President of Bulgaria, Rumen Radev, visited the Diplomatic Academy of Viet Nam (DAV) on the morning of 26th November as part of his official visit to Viet Nam, where he delivered a keynote speech and engaged in discussions with DAV’s researchers, faculty members, and students.

In her opening remarks, Ambassador, Dr. Pham Lan Dung, Acting President of the DAV, expressed her honour and pride in welcoming President Radev to the Academy. Dr. Dung also expressed her admiration for Bulgaria’s notable achievements under President Radev’s leadership. Throughout the course of history, especially during Viet Nam’s struggle for national independence, Bulgaria has always provided Viet Nam with invaluable support, which shall forever be cherished by the Viet Namese people. Dr. Dung emphasized: “President Rumen Radev’s visit is a testament to the enduring friendship between our nations. More importantly, it demonstrates the President’s personal commitment to education and Viet Nam’s youth, who represent the future of Viet Nam-Bulgaria relations.”

President Radev underscored the longstanding partnership between Viet Nam and Bulgaria, built on a solid political foundation, shared values, and mutual trust from deep historical ties and clear legal frameworks, especially as both countries' international standing continues to grow. He commended Viet Nam’s impressive socio-economic progress and highlighted the potential for expanding bilateral cooperation in transformative sectors such as automotive technology, artificial intelligence, defense industries, aerospace, food security, and bio-agriculture. The President also called for both nations to maximize their existing strengths to foster a sustainable partnership, enhancing their positions on the global stage.

Addressing DAV students, President Radev emphasized the significance of their future role in diplomacy. He remarked: “Diplomacy is not just a profession, but a vocation. In today’s world, where international relations are increasingly fragile and competition is fierce, excelling as a diplomat is the best way to serve your country, to protect your people’s interests, and advance Viet Nam’s integration into the global community.”

Responding to DAV students’ questions, President Radev stressed the importance of prioritizing national interests while seeking a balance in foreign policy, particularly in international organisations and forums. Talking about sustainable development and cooperation, the President highlighted Bulgaria’s commitment to renewable energy, especially energy storage solutions, and its efforts to build and transition towards a circular economy. The President expressed a willingness to collaborate with Viet Nam in green technology to tackle future challenges regarding climate change and energy security.

The dialogue between President Radev and DAV’s researchers, faculty members, and students concluded on a positive and constructive note, reaffirming the close and enduring ties between Viet Nam and Bulgaria. The event also provided DAV students with a valuable opportunity to demonstrate their interest in international affairs, as well as gain deeper insights into international diplomacy and Viet Nam’s foreign policy within the context of its growing global integration.
