SEMINAR ON “PROSPECTS FOR UPGRADING VIETNAM’S STOCK MARKET CLASSIFICATION”

The seminar was honored to welcome Dr. Lê Đức Khánh, Director of Investment Capability Development at VPS Securities Joint Stock Company, who offered practical and in-depth perspectives on Vietnam’s stock market upgrade process in the context of global financial integration. From the Academy, the event was attended by Ms. Nguyễn Thị Thanh Hằng and Ms. Lê Hoàng Quỳnh Anh, lecturers from the Faculty of International Economics, together with more than 100 students from regular and international joint-training programs.

The program began with a token of appreciation presented to the speaker as a gesture of gratitude for his time and insights. In his main presentation, Dr. Khánh provided a comprehensive overview of Vietnam’s stock market and analyzed the key factors influencing its ability to advance from a frontier market to an emerging market under MSCI and FTSE criteria. He emphasized that upgrading market classification is not merely a technical objective but a strategic step toward improving transparency, attracting foreign investment inflows, and promoting sustainable development of Vietnam’s financial system.

In addition to discussing prospects, the speaker highlighted major challenges Vietnam must address, including the need to improve trading infrastructure, enhance corporate information transparency, refine the legal framework, and reform the clearing and settlement system. According to Dr. Khánh, the upgrade process is a long-term journey requiring coordinated efforts from regulators, listed companies, and financial intermediaries.

The Q&A session was lively, with many questions from students focusing on topics such as how students can begin learning about stock investment, sectors that may benefit from an upgraded market classification, and ways Vietnam can balance international standards with domestic realities. The speaker addressed each question in detail, offering students fresh and practical perspectives on Vietnam’s financial market.
