On the afternoon of 12 March 2025, the Faculty of International Economics, Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam, successfully organized the seminar “Tận dụng ưu đãi xuất xứ hàng hóa trong khuôn khổ các Hiệp định FTA của Việt Nam”. Nearly 120 students from the regular program and the joint training program attended the event at the Geneva Room, creating an engaging and dynamic academic atmosphere.

The seminar welcomed Ms. Trần Thanh Bình, Head of the Rules of Origin Division, Import-Export Department, Ministry of Industry and Trade, together with Dr. Nguyễn Xuân Đông and Dr. Nguyễn Vinh Thành, lecturers of the Faculty of International Economics.

Throughout the session, Ms. Trần Thanh Bình guided students from an overview of Vietnam’s import–export performance to in-depth analyses of commitment areas within FTAs. She presented notable figures on Vietnam’s trade turnover since 2000, major milestones in the country’s economic integration, and the positive impacts of FTAs. Concepts such as “trade deficit” and “trade surplus” were made accessible and relatable through interactive questions and enthusiastic student participation. The speaker also examined the structure of Vietnam’s import–export goods, highlighting key export products and promising sectors.

A highlight of the seminar was the discussion on new-generation FTAs, with CPTPP and EVFTA as leading examples. The speaker provided detailed analyses of rules-of-origin commitments in these agreements and identified sectors in which Vietnam can maximize preferential treatment.

Beyond theoretical aspects, the seminar addressed the volatile global environment, particularly the U.S.–China trade tensions. Ms. Bình encouraged students to share their perspectives, fostering an active discussion on the challenges and opportunities facing Vietnamese enterprises. Students proposed various ideas on meeting rules-of-origin requirements, demonstrating proactive learning and strong critical thinking skills.

The seminar concluded with an open and constructive Q&A session. Students raised insightful questions reflecting their genuine interest in practical issues. Ms. Trần Thanh Bình offered thorough responses, valuable explanations, and helpful guidance, enabling students to gain a clearer understanding of how to utilize preferential rules of origin under FTAs.

The event ended with meaningful group photos of the speaker, organizers, and students. The Faculty of International Economics hopes that the knowledge and experience shared during the seminar will strengthen students’ confidence as they pursue international economic integration, contributing to Vietnam’s continued global advancement. The support and mentorship of experts and lecturers will remain a significant source of motivation for students on their journey ahead.
