SEMINAR “TRENDS IN INVESTIGATIONS AND THE APPLICATION OF TRADE REMEDIES IN VIETNAM AND WORLDWIDE”

On the afternoon of 20 March 2025, in the Geneva Room of the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam, the Faculty of International Economics successfully organized a seminar titled “Trends in Investigations and the Application of Trade Remedies in Vietnam and Worldwide.” The event attracted a large number of students, lecturers, and experts in international trade.

The seminar welcomed Mr. Chu Thắng Trung, Deputy Director General of the Trade Remedies Authority of Vietnam, Ministry of Industry and Trade, Dr. Nguyễn Xuân Đông, lecturer of the Faculty of International Economics, and many students interested in the topic.

Throughout the seminar, Mr. Chu Thắng Trung provided a comprehensive overview of trade remedy measures, including anti-dumping, countervailing, and safeguard measures. He also offered an in-depth analysis of key legal frameworks such as relevant WTO Agreements (Anti-Dumping, Subsidies and Countervailing Measures, Safeguards) and the legal systems of the United States, the EU, Canada, and Vietnam.

A highlight of the event was the discussion of investigation procedures in trade remedy cases, which typically last from 12 to 18 months. The speaker presented data on the number of anti-dumping, countervailing, and safeguard measures by product sectors, and examined notable investigations in Vietnam.

Beyond academic insights, the seminar encouraged students to share their views on emerging trends and the impacts of trade remedy measures on Vietnamese businesses. The dynamic Q&A session offered students a more practical understanding of opportunities and challenges in the context of global economic integration.

The seminar concluded on an enthusiastic note, with many valuable lessons drawn. This meaningful event helped Diplomatic Academy students deepen their understanding of trade remedies, equipping them with stronger foundations for future careers in international economics and trade. Through the knowledge and experience shared, the Faculty of International Economics hopes that students will gain the confidence and resilience needed to thrive in the era of global economic integration. The guidance of experts and lecturers is not only a source of knowledge but also a source of motivation, empowering students to contribute to Vietnam’s advancement on the global economic stage.
