US Defense Secretary Mark Esper delivers a speech at Diplomatic Academy of Viet Nam

On November 20, 2019, during his official visit to Viet Nam, US Defense Secretary Mark T. Esper delivered a speech at the Diplomatic Academy of Viet Nam (DAV). Attending the event were former Vietnamese Ambassadors to the US, representatives of relevant agencies, senior advisors and more than 200 students, lecturers and researchers of the DAV.

In his speech, Defense Secretary Mark Esper reaffirmed the US commitment to an international rules-based order which has brought security and prosperity to the Indo-Pacific region. He stressed the need of maintaing this order in the face of emerging challenges. Appreciating Vietnam's growing role in assuming the ASEAN Chairmanship in 2020, he affirmed that the US would work closely with Vietnam to fulfill this important task.

After delivering the speech, Defense Secretary Mark Esper hosted a Q&A session with DAV students on a number of issues related to Viet Nam-US relations and US policy towards the Indo-Pacific.
