On May 21, 2026, Dr. Nguyen Thi Thin, Vice President of the Diplomatic Academy of Viet Nam (DAV), received a delegation from Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU) of the Russian Federation, led by Dr. Evgeny Vlasov, Vice Rector for International Relations, during the delegation’s visit to Hanoi to attend the Third Viet Nam–Russian Federation University Presidents’ Forum.
Also in attendance was Mr. Nguyen An Nam, Director of FEFU’s Representative Office in Hanoi, along with DAV representatives from the Department of Undergraduate and Postgraduate Training, Joint Training Programmes, and Division of External Relations and Communications.
FEFU, whose origins trace back to the Oriental Institute, is the oldest and largest comprehensive university in Russia’s Far East, with approximately 40,000 students enrolled in more than 150 academic programmes. Speaking at the meeting, Dr. Evgeny Vlasov highlighted the long-standing historical and cultural ties between Viet Nam and Russia’s Far Eastern region. He noted that FEFU has been designated by the Russian Government as a leading centre for Asian studies and research, and expressed the University’s desire to establish a long-term partnership with DAV in a number of areas, including joint research projects on Russia – Viet Nam and Russia – ASEAN relations, exchanges of faculty members, experts and students, as well as the development of academic and training programmes.
Dr. Nguyen Thi Thin, in turn, reaffirmed DAV’s commitment to diversifying its international partnerships and strengthening cooperation with FEFU. She identified several priority areas for collaboration, including joint research projects aimed at publication in reputable international academic journals, exchanges of faculty members and students, and both short-term and long-term academic and training programmes. Dr. Nguyen Thi Thin also expressed appreciation for the longstanding tradition of educational cooperation between Viet Nam and the Russian Federation, particularly Russia’s continued provision of scholarship opportunities for Vietnamese citizens, and further expressed interest in professional development and study opportunities for DAV faculty members at FEFU.
The two sides agreed on the strong potential for cooperation and expressed their intention to complete the necessary procedures for the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding at an appropriate occasion in the near future, which would provide a framework for concrete cooperative activities, including student and faculty exchanges, joint research projects, and the co-organisation of conferences, seminars, academic programmes, and cultural events.
The meeting took place in a warm and friendly atmosphere, building upon the positive cooperation achieved between the two institutions in recent years while opening up new opportunities for collaboration between DAV and FEFU, in continuation of the long-standing friendship and educational cooperation between the two countries./.
