YICMG 2016 - The calling journey to the headwaters of the Lantsang River - Mekong

On June 15, 2016, six DAV students arrived in Yushu, Qinghai (China), bringing with them the youth and enthusiasm of youth to participate in YICMG. YICMG is a competition of young initiatives and young ideas about "cross-border" issues along the mysterious Mekong River. The young generation of six countries along the Lancang - Mekong region (China, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam) have gathered to share, listen and understand each other. Experience is the most valuable thing we get from YICMG.

Two teams from the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam with teacher Nguyen Minh Trang - Faculty of International Economics

On June 16, we started with the first activity - project presentation. Starting with the "Lobby" round, participating teams have the opportunity to discuss directly with experts and respected guests about their projects. From there, hidden aspects and corners of the project were revealed, causing us to brainstorm more. Next, the presentation round took place on a large and majestic stage. I am fascinated by the bold, creative projects of the students. I can never forget the moment when I put on the uniform of a diplomatic student, stood on stage, under the attention of experts, and under the watch of international friends, to speak up about my own project.

On June 17-19, a series of other activities continued to be extremely elaborately prepared by the YICMG organizing committee. We were immersed in the solemn opening ceremony held under the sun and wind of the Yushu land, in the performance of a melodious, professional orchestra, accompanied by famous singers. It's so unforgettable that sometimes, the kids in my group still mutter those lyrics.

Right after that, we quickly left for the "field work" trip. On the morning of September 18, we no longer worked with the old group, but began to randomly divide into "international" groups, each group member coming from a different country. From that moment, we were tasked with completing a certain project of the competition. So I had a long trip to the headwaters of the Lancang - Mekong River with new friends. We have overcome barriers of regional and cultural differences to become people on the same team, with the same group, and with the same ideas. The car rides, the songs, the meals, and the midnight discussions brought us closer together and understood each other better.

All emotions seemed to burst when we set foot in the upstream land of Lancang- Mekong. We are happy not only because our feet have touched this place, but also because of the experiences throughout this journey.

Those are experiences with majestic and magnificent mother nature. I can't forget the seemingly endless mountain ranges, seemingly forever. I cannot forget the smooth, peaceful plateau, permeated with an incredibly deep blue sky. I cannot forget the rivers and streams, sometimes gurgling and fierce, sometimes calm and gentle... During the journey to field work, immersing myself in the scenery, mother nature showed me that I am just a small creature in this vast world. It must also be said that, only when we get beyond the noise of the streets, can we see that mother nature is indescribably beautiful, mesmerizingly beautiful, a beauty beyond words!

It was also the experiences of multiculturalism along the Mekong River that the young generation of six countries brought, and the richness of culture in the land of Qinghai... that surprised us. There are also unique costumes, singing voices, toasting music, and unforgettable typical local dishes. All create a brilliant YICMG!

At the end of that meaningful field work trip, it was also time for us to enter the final mission. It was a presentation of the improvements that each international group has agreed upon. I felt the serious work of the teams, even though everyone had only known each other for a few days.

YICMG 2016 ended with a solemn, warm and local closing ceremony.

Returning from the YICMG 2016 competition, we have all matured a lot. We became stronger, more independent and much more mature. The knowledge we got after the competition was priceless.

Proud of the Vietnamese flag at the final round of the YICMG competition

For us, the "children '' of DAV, there would not be such a meaningful YCIMG without the guidance, encouragement and support of the respected teachers of the Faculty and the Academy. YICMG 2016 has ended. But the memories of the summer we spent at YICMG - will never disappear, will never cool down.
