  • The Program is designed with a strong career-orientation

The Bachelor’s program in International Law is designed to equip students with a competitiveness edge in the international law arena. It is composed of theoretical foundations, extensive coursework in international and Vietnamese laws, and practical skill development.  Notably, hands-on training in authentic legal skills, instructed by legal practitioners, familiarizes students with real-world expectations in their future careers.

  • Develop capacity to work with different legal systems

In addition to the focus on international law, the Program provides a sufficient insight into Vietnamese law, with a particular focus on civil law, to better prepare students with the competitiveness in the Vietnamese legal landscape. .

By dedicating ample credit hours to Vietnamese law, on par with other esteemed law universities in Vietnam, students cultivate a nuanced understanding of diverse legal systems. This interdisciplinary approach enhances students' adaptability and marketability in a globalized legal environment.

  • Career-oriented extracurricular activities

Complementing classroom learning, the program is supported by a series of extracurricular activities such as guest lectures from practitioners, moot court simulations and field visits to legal agencies and offices. Among these activities, moot court simulations became the traditional extracurricular offering in legal education at the Diplomatic Academy as they play a pivotal role in cultivating lawyering skills for students. Students have chances to participate in various moot court competitions such as Asia Cup International Moot Competition, IHL Moot Competition, Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition, and the Stetson International Environmental Moot Court Competition. Field visits to legal agencies and offices, such as the National Assembly or the People’s Supreme Court of Vietnam, are offered to enrich students’ learning experiences with real-world perspectives

Our faculty members are educated from leading law schools in Vietnam and overseas. With post-graduate degrees from countries renowned for legal education excellence,  such as the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, France, Belgium, and New Zealand, our faculty members bring a wealth of expertise to the classroom

Additionally, students have chances to learn with experienced diplomats and other guest lecturers from prestigious Vietnamese law schools, such as Hanoi Law University, University of Law-Hanoi National University, and seasoned practitioners from top law firms in Vietnam.

CORE COURSES

Legal theories and Vietnamese legal system is a special course developed by the Faculty to be taught only for the DAV students. It provides students with in-depth knowledge in legal theories and an introductory understanding of the Vietnamese legal system. Completing this course equips students with the foundational knowledge to further study other subjects in the Program.

Public International Law and Vietnam’s Civil law provide students with a solid foundation in both international law and Vietnamese civil law, serving as not only a stepping stone for further academic pursuits but also a solid framework for independent study. Sources of international law, international law of the sea and international human rights law are also offered.

For practical skill training, students have the option to enroll in courses focusing on various authentic legal skills such as advocacy and mooting skills, legal argumentation and writing, lawyering, or skills for negotiation and conclusion of treaties.  Taught by legal practitioners, these courses familiarize students with real-world skills and the expectations of prospective employers.

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

After graduation, students can take on various employment positions as follows:

- Officers of departments with functions relating to international law, legal affairs, or international cooperation of ministries, particularly the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and other governmental organs.

- Legal staff in Vietnamese and foreign enterprises, especially those that have business with foreign partners.

- Legal staff in Vietnamese and foreign law firms.

- Assistant lecturers and researchers of law at domestic or foreign universities and institutions.

- Legal staff in charge of international law or law in general in intergovernmental organizations or non-governmental organizations.

- Collaborator, reporter, editor in charge of law-related issues at news agencies (radio and television stations, radio stations, newspaper, and magazine editorial offices).

FURTHER STUDY PROSPECTS

With the in-depth professional knowledge and strong language skill, graduate students are capable to pursue studies at master’s or doctoral level in the majors of Law, Public International Law, Law of the Sea, International Trade Law, International Human Rights Law, International Business Law, International Intellectual Property Law, and more at both domestic and foreign universities.

Students who expect to practice law can continue to study to obtain legal practice certificates such as those for arbitrator, mediator, administrator, lawyer, notary, or bailiff, among others.
