Hanoi, 21 May 2012 - The Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam held a seminar on 4 May 2012 between the DAV’s Institute for Foreign Policy and Strategic Studies (IFPSS) and the Japan Institute for National Fundamentals (JINF) during its working visit to Vietnam. The JINF delegation was headed by Director-General Yoshiko SAKURAI.

Overview of the seminar

At the beginning of the seminar, IFPSS Director-General Hoang Anh Tuan recalled stories by leaders of patriotic movements at the beginning of the 19th century in Vietnam such as Phan Boi Chau and Phan Chu Trinh. These movements had been inspired by the prosperity of Japan at that time. The leaders opened patriotic schools in Japan and sought to send Vietnamese students to study there. In the 21st century, the common understandings as well as science-technology and transport-communication developments have brought Vietnam and Japan closer than ever.

Director-General of JINF said at the seminar that since the disaster of earthquake and tsunami in 2011, Japan has more and more appreciated international friends, including Vietnam. Japanese government and people hold that strengthening international cooperation to be able to cope with challenges in the future that Japan and other countries are likely to face is of great importance.

JINF delegation was speaking at the seminar

Although JINF was established five years ago, it has been exerting critical influence in Japan. As an independent research agency, JINF can provide consultation and review ideas for all levels in Japanese government.
