From Pressure to Pride: Thảo Hương and the Diplomatic Journey That Shaped Her

Pressure—often seen as a burden—became, for Thảo Hương, the very force that propelled her forward. From a student struggling to meet deadlines, she transformed into a standout graduate of the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam (DAV), now confidently navigating the fast-paced world of communications. Her story is not just about perseverance—it’s a powerful lesson in how challenges, once embraced, can become the most valuable chapters in one’s life. Join us as we hear from Thảo Hương herself—a young woman who reminds us that sometimes, it is precisely through pressure that we discover our strength.

When Pressure Becomes a Catalyst

There are times in life that feel defined only by deadlines, exhaustion, and stress. But looking back, those are often the moments that quietly lay the foundation for growth. For Thảo Hương, her second year of university marked such a turning point—a time when pressure ceased to be an obstacle and became a test of inner strength.

She calls it her most pivotal year for good reason. When Hương decided to pursue a double major in English Language and International Communication, she wasn’t just doubling her coursework—she was reshaping her entire routine, mindset, and emotional stamina. “There were weeks when I had to write three essays while also preparing a group presentation in English. There were sleepless nights when I genuinely thought about quitting,” she recalls.

Hương doesn’t sugarcoat the fatigue, nor does she pretend the struggle was easy. But what sets her apart is how she responded. Instead of collapsing under the weight of burnout, she used those overwhelming moments as fuel—to reevaluate how she worked, how she thought, and how she lived. “I realized I couldn’t do everything at once. I had to start asking: ‘Is this really necessary? Is there a more effective way to do this?’”

That shift gave rise to a new skill—critical thinking. Not learned from textbooks, but forged in the day-to-day reality of juggling tasks and surviving stress. By learning to manage her time better, identify core problems, and approach them more strategically, Hương gradually took back control. The once-overwhelmed student became someone calm under pressure—someone capable of taking on more, including the demanding role of teaching assistant in the English Department, a position requiring both academic mastery and polished communication skills.

There were also quieter, fleeting moments that left a lasting mark. One, in particular, stands out in her memory: watching the Academy welcome foreign heads of state. “I’ll never forget that moment. It hit me—this place wasn’t just about academics. It was part of something much larger, a place that contributes to the country’s most important missions.” That day, what had once felt abstract became deeply real. She saw herself, not just as a student, but as part of a greater national and global narrative. It was a turning point—not of circumstance, but of perspective.

More Than a Degree: a mindset, a resilience, and a sense of gratitude

The real value of education isn’t found in a degree, but in what lingers after the lectures end. For Thảo Hương, the Diplomatic Academy gave her something far more enduring than any diploma—a mindset, a resilience, and a sense of gratitude.

Some lessons aren’t listed in a syllabus, and can’t be measured by grades, but they stay with us for life. That’s what DAV gave her: an open mindset, the courage to face complexity, and above all, a grateful heart. “At DAV, I learned to approach problems not in isolation, but as part of a broader picture—where politics, culture, and society are always interwoven,” she explains.

This wasn’t just academic training—it was a lens through which to see the world. And once you’ve absorbed that perspective, you’re no longer just a student. You become a global citizen—someone constantly aware of their place within the wider fabric of society. Even after graduating and gaining experience across various professional settings, the values that she cherishes most remain those instilled at DAV: composure, responsibility, and a deep desire to contribute to the world around her.

Believe in your dreams. Don’t fear the challenge. But also, remember to listen to yourself—and stay connected to those around you,” she says. “The years at DAV were some of the brightest of my youth.” It’s a message she offers not just to others, but to the version of herself who once felt lost in the pressure.

Not everyone knows what they want from the start. And that’s okay. What matters is having the courage to try, to move forward, and to believe that every experience—no matter how challenging—is quietly opening doors. Thảo Hương’s journey is a beautiful reminder of that truth. It’s a story that tells us university isn’t just where you earn a degree—it’s where you begin to understand who you are. And for her, the Diplomatic Academy didn’t just offer knowledge. It gave her the clarity, confidence, and direction to find her own path—and to shine, in her own way.
