

From January 24th, 2019 to January 27th, 2019, representative of the Diplomatic Academy of Viet Nam and Deputy Dean of International Laws Faculty Trinh Hai Yen attended the meeting of chief editors of “Encyclopedia of Public International Law in Asia” in Seoul, South Korea. This meeting drew the participation of chief editors representing Asian countries involved in compiling the Encyclopedia of Public International Law in Asia, which is to be published in 2020. Trinh Hai Yen is the chief editor of the chapter about Vietnam in this book, theming on general introductions about Viet Nam and such international laws as international investment law, international trade law, border, territory and sea dispute resolution.

The meeting was chaired by Soekwoo Lee, General Editor of “the Encyclopedia of Public International Law in Asia.” The working session revolved around discussions on issues of practical implementation of international laws in the territories of 14 countries participating in the meeting. Several countries like South Korea, Japan and Bangladesh contributed more than 100 entries to the aforementioned encyclopedia, including specific discussions related to human rights, international treaties, trade and investment and international relations in South Korea in particular and other participating countries in general. Scholars from Korean Law Universities presented dictionary entries on such issues as South Korea-Japan relations, sea laws, national regulations, investment and environment, refugees and regional security.
Viet Nam is also an active country in utilizing and formulating international laws. Therefore, during the meeting, Trinh Hai Yen presented the entries on international treaties in Vietnamese legal system, territorial, sea and coastal sovereignty law, diplomatic and consular law, Free Trade Agreement, international investment treaty, dispute resolution within the framework of WTO, dispute resolution between international investors and the State.
This is a successful and effective meeting as the chief editors agreed on the execution of the Encyclopedia of Public International Law in Asia. The book is scheduled to be published by Brill in 2020.
