The Office of Postgraduate Academic Affairs, under the Department of Education and Training, originated from the Faculty of Professional Development, which was established in 2001 with the mandate to provide postgraduate knowledge and skills training for officials working in foreign affairs. In 2008, it was renamed the Faculty of Postgraduate Training. In 2016, pursuant to Decision No. 69/2016/QĐ-HVNG signed on 25 January 2016 by the Director of the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam (DAV), the Department of Education and Training was established, and the Faculty of Postgraduate Training adopted its new name: the Office of Postgraduate Academic Affairs, one of the four functional units of the Department of Education and Training. The Office of Postgraduate Academic Affairs serves as the focal point responsible for managing and training master's and doctoral degree programs at the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam.
Over more than 20 years of development, The Office of Postgraduate Academic Affairs has achieved remarkable success, closely coordinating with other offices within the Department of Education and Training to contribute to building the Diplomatic Academy into the leading institution in Vietnam for training high-quality human resources in foreign affairs and comprehensive international integration.
Currently, the Office offers master’s programs in four majors: International Relations (since 2001), International Law (since 2012), International Economics (since 2014), and International Communication (since 2021), with nearly 2,000 students having been enrolled to date. At the doctoral level, the Office offers two majors: International Relations (since 2010) and International Law (since 2017), with a total of nearly 170 PhD candidates enrolled to date.
Every year, the postgraduate programs of the Diplomatic Academy welcome many foreign students and PhD candidates both under scholarship agreements and self-financed from countries in the region and developed economies around the world such as Laos, Cambodia, Mongolia, Taiwan, North Korea, Japan, South Korea, Russia, Palestine, and others.
In the coming time, The Office of Postgraduate Academic Affairs will implement strategies to ensure and enhance training quality, expand enrollment scale, develop new postgraduate programs, and build the distinct academic identity of the Diplomatic Academy in alignment with the Academy’s development strategy toward 2025 and vision to 2030. These efforts aim to meet established goals in accordance with the Academy’s published vision and mission, heading toward regional standards.
