Scientific Conference on "Prospects for Resolving the Russia-Ukraine Conflict after the 2024 U.S. Presidential Election" at DAV

On the afternoon of February 28, the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam successfully organized the scientific conference on "Prospects for Resolving the Russia-Ukraine Conflict After the 2024 U.S. Presidential Election," with the participation of many experienced scholars and researchers.

The conference is part of the ministerial-level research project “Forecasting the Impact of the Russia-Ukraine Conflict on the Strategic Situation of Certain Regions Worldwide Until 2030”. It is conducted within the framework of the key research program “Forecasting Vietnam's Foreign Relations Environment Until 2030.” The Conference aims to gather expert and scholarly opinions on possible scenarios for resolving the Russia-Ukraine conflict and its multidimensional impacts on the involved stakeholders.

The conference was chaired by Dr. Le Thi Ngoc Han, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of International Politics and Diplomacy at the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam and Head of the Research Project, who also delivered the keynote presentation. Notably, the conference received contributions from distinguished scholars, leaders, and former leaders of units directly involved in international relations and European studies, including: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Dinh Tinh, Director-General of the Department of Foreign Policy, Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Dr. Nguyen Hong Quang, Deputy Director-General of the Department of American Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen An Ha, Former Director of the Institute for European Studies, Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences; Additionally, the conference attracted significant attention and participation from numerous international relations researchers, ambassadors, leaders of the Diplomatic Academy, and representatives from various departments of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of National Defense, Ministry of Public Security, Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics, and the Central Committee for External Relations.

In his opening remarks, Dr. Nguyen Hung Son, Acting President of the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam, highlights the profound geopolitical shifts occurring due to policy adjustments made by the U.S. under President Donald Trump regarding the Russia-Ukraine conflict. He emphasized that these changes would undoubtedly have significant implications for Vietnam's foreign policy environment, necessitating careful preparation.

For more than two hours, with five presentations delivered, the delegates focused on clarifying four major topics: (i) The direction of the U.S. policy on the Russia-Ukraine conflict in President Donald Trump’s second term; (ii) Analysis and forecasts of the reactions of key stakeholders, including Russia, Ukraine, and Western countries; (iii) Possible scenarios for conflict resolution; (iv) The multidimensional impacts on Vietnam and relevant policy implications.

The discussion session was lively, featuring multiple rounds of scholarly debate and scientific critiques. In particular, the delegates explored key foreign policy implications for Vietnam, emphasizing the need for flexibility, proactive international integration, and enhanced global cooperation in an increasingly volatile international environment.

In her closing remarks, Dr. Le Thi Ngoc Han expressed deep appreciation for the valuable contributions of the participants. She affirmed that the insights shared during the conference would be invaluable for the research team in refining and finalizing their study./.
